Disrupting Data: Developing Technology Integrated Assignments to Teach about Race and Racism

Drawing on the lineage of liberatory pedagogy and critical information literacy, Professor Vanessa Rosa research librarian Caro Pinto created Disrupting Data Project. While teaching about race inequality in higher education can be a challenging endeavor, allowed authors to encourage students both think critically role “data” history science alongside perceived value data science, visualization, data-driven decision making challenge notion that is neutral or objective. This reflective essay focuses collaborative development process, different possibilities for engaging with histories racism, as well importance creating supporting learning spaces.
